The BCFED brings together unions from across the province to stand up for working people. Together with our partner organizations, we are a powerful voice for workers’ rights in BC.

Our member unions represent over 500,000 working people in communities throughout the province, working in every aspect of the B.C. economy. We have a long and proud history of fighting for the rights of all working people to a safe workplace and fair wages. We stand with each other during strikes, lockouts and boycotts, and we fight for justice and a better deal for workers everywhere.

The Bakery and Confectionery Workers International Union of America, one of the pioneers of the North American labor movement, was organized in 1886. In 1957, the American Bakery and Confectionery Workers’ International Union was formed. In 1969, the two organizations united.

The BCGEU is one of the most diverse unions in British Columbia, representing approximately 80,000 men and women in more than 550 bargaining units. The union can trace its beginnings back to the early 1900s when provincial government employees formed an association to address their working conditions. Since then, the union has organized thousands of workers outside the government service.

Our 54,000 members work in large and small communities from Twillingate, Newfoundland to Tappen, British Columbia. A majority of members work for Canada Post as rural and suburban mail carriers, letter carriers, mail service couriers, postal clerks, mail handlers, mail despatchers, technicians, mechanics, electricians and electronic technicians. But CUPW represents more than post office workers. CUPE BC is a provincial division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, and acts as the political voice of CUPE locals in British Columbia.

CUPE BC represents 85,000 workers in more than 170 local unions and across many different sectors. Nearly every community in the province has one or more CUPE locals. CUPE members in B.C. work in hundreds of occupations that help keep communities strong. We work for municipalities, school boards, libraries, colleges, universities, social service agencies, community health centres, private agencies, the ambulance service, public utilities, and other public institutions.

The Compensation Employees' Union was certified in May 1974. About two thirds of the 2,100 members work in the lower mainland. There are offices in Richmond, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Surrey, and Abbotsford. The rest of the members work in area offices in Victoria, Nanaimo, Courtenay, Kelowna, Kamloops, Nelson, Prince George, Fort St. John, and Terrace.

The CEU is an all inclusive bargaining unit representing all workers at the Workers' Compensation Board that are not excluded by law. The membership ranges from cleaners, support positions, technical positions, officer level positions, physiologists, and lawyers.

The Directors Guild of Canada, B.C. District Council (DGC BC) represents the creative and logistical personnel in the film and television industry in British Columbia. The DGC BC Collective Agreement covers the categories of Director, 2nd Unit Director, Production & Unit Manager, plus those employed in the various Assistant Director and Locations Departments.

The Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC is the provincial voice for faculty and staff in BC universities, colleges and institutes, and in private sector institutions. FPSE member locals, represented by President's Council and the Executive, represent over 10,000 faculty and staff and was formerly the College Institute Educators’ Association of BC.

GSU represents working people who are engaged in agribusiness, grain handling, fish farming, livestock handling, newspaper publishing, oat milling, and printing. GSU members are employed in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Alberta. The majority of GSU members work under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.

GSU affiliated with the International Longshore and Warehouse Workers Union – Canada in 1995, and became part of a larger inter-union consortium comprising a total of more than 14,000 working people who provide vital labour in Canada’s import/export supply chain, small manufacturers, the retail, wholesale, and service sectors.

The Grain Workers Union Local 333 ILWU is a Canadian nion representing members in the Ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert. Our union is a chartered local of ILWU Canada. The Grain Workers Union is responsible for manning the six grain terminals on the west coast of BC.

HSA represents more than 16,000 health science professionals at over 250 hospitals and agencies in acute care, long-term care and community health, including workers at child development centres and transition houses.

Outside of the acute care setting, HSA members support people living in group homes and residential care, help development of children in child care, and support women escaping violence.

IATSE Local 891

IATSE Local 891 consists of over 8,000 professional artists and technicians who work in film and television production in BC. IATSE 891 has 19 departments representing particular entertainment industry trades or crafts. The working people of IATSE Local 891 have access to an extended health and dental plan, an RRSP plan, an employee and family assistance plan, and ongoing training with a strong emphasis on safety. IATSE Local 168

IATSE Local 168 was originally chartered in the early 1900’s to provide stage labour at the Royal Theatre. IATSE Local 168 has since been rechartered to include projectionists and Front of House workers and continues to grow both in its membership and venue affiliations.

Our jurisdictions include Stage, FOH, and Projection for Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

IATSE Local 168 is the sole labour supplier for Victoria Stage Incorporated. VSI has held the labour contract for the Victoria Save on Foods Memorial Centre since its opening in 2005. VSI also provides labour for many other companies around Vancouver Island.

IATSE Local 118

With the one hundredth anniversary of its charter in 2004, Local 118 has been an integral part of Vancouver's performing arts almost since Vancouver's inception. Local 118 has established a tradition of excellence that it will continue as it enters its second century.

The Local provides local crew for touring rock productions at Abbotsford Centre, The Pacific Coliseum, BC Place and elsewhere. Local 118 was the technical labour supplier for Expo 86, and continues to be the technical labour supplier for the Pacific National Exhibition.

IATSE Local 669

International Cinematographers Guild of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) ICG | 669 consists of over 900 members involved in motion picture, film, digital, internet and television production.

The ICG | 669 membership is involved in all aspects of film and television that pertains to the camera. Established in 1929, the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters’ Association (BCPFFA) is an organization comprised of 53 locals who represent over 4,000 professional men and women fire fighters in BC, including the Yukon. Local 118 has been helping members find jobs, defend their rights and advance their interests for over 50 years. Education and safety training have ensured that members remain at the top of their field. Today we are leading the way in the movement to build green, energy-efficient buildings to the highest standards.

In Vancouver, Local 54 of the Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers was chartered in 1930. It did not survive and the members, mostly from the Plumbers Union, moved back to the Plumbers Local 170.

We have about 375 members, employed on commercial, residential and industrial construction sites.

We represent more than 40,000 Canadian workers in air transport and a wide range of manufacturing including aircraft, auto parts, autobuses, aerospace, electronics, light and heavy machinery, tools and appliances. We are the largest airport security screeners union in Canada. The IAM also represents a growing number of workers in the health care and hospitality sectors as well as office, technical and other white collar workers.

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmith, Forgers and Helpers (IBB) is a union that was established to implement the natural right of workers to organize.

The boilermaker trade was recognized as a stand-alone craft over 300 years ago. Over 130 years ago, Boilermakers and Iron Ship Builders from across North America established this union so that workers could secure work with dignity along with improved wages, hours, working conditions and other economic advantages through collective bargaining.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada has been successfully representing working people in British Columbia since 1948. ILWU Canada is the exclusive bargaining agent for over 3,000 men and women throughout the province.

The Labourer's Union Local 1611 was the result of the amalgamation of four existing locals, the Tunnel and Rock Workers’ Union Local 168, and the Construction and General Workers’ Union Local 602, the Construction & General Labourers’ Union Local 1070 and Local 1093 and finally, in 2010 the Dock and Shipyard Workers’ Union Local 1204 became members of Local 1611.

The Marine Workers have a long and proud history, dating back to 1927 when we broke away from the International Boilermakers. The Federation is charted directly to the Canadian Labour Congress and has proven to be a strong lobbying vehicle for the industry.

Movement of United Professionals represents about 13,000 union members at public and private sector companies in British Columbia.

MoveUP is local 378 of the COPE National Union which represnts 33,000 members, and are affiliated to the BC Federation of Labour, the Canadian Labour Congress and Provincial Labour Councils.

MoveUP is a diverse and socially responsible union, working together with many community groups to ensure the public and elected government representatives are aware of the benefits that unions bring to the economy of BC.

The PEA is a labour union. Its constitution sets out similar objectives, and labour law gives it the same rights and obligations to represent its members in collective bargaining as apply to other labour unions in British Columbia. The PEA is a union of and for professional employees. PEA bargaining units consist entirely or mostly of professionals — people whose work typically requires that they have earned at least one university degree. Some of the jobs our members have include River Forecasters, Climate Action Foresters, Teachers, Software Engineers, and Youth Librarians.

The Retail Wholesale Union is an Industrial Union. This means that every worker engaged by a common employer may participate in the collective bargaining process with that employer for the betterment of all.

In 1981 the membership of the three active Locals of the Union (Locals 580, 517, and 470) finalized their disaffiliation from the International Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union and formed the Retail Wholesale Union in B.C.

The Canadian Area of the ILWU has given support and understanding of our concerns while providing the means for our affiliation to the B.C. Federation of Labour and the Canadian Labour Congress.

Local 40 is part of the UNITE HERE International Union, representing over 300,000 workers in the hotel, food service, airport and gaming industries throughout Canada and the U.S.

The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada or "UA" as it is commonly known is a multi-craft union whose members are engaged in the fabrication, installation and servicing of piping systems.

There are approximately 326,000 highly-skilled United Association members who belong to over 300 individual local unions across North America.

Since 1901, Vancouver Local 145 of the Canadian Federation of Musicians has been representing members throughout mainland British Columbia. We are the largest Musicians’ Association in Western Canada. Our mission is to fight for the interests and well being of the musicians employed in our jurisdiction. We do that by collective bargaining and by putting all of our members on a sound business foundation.
